Mission Statement
Every once in a while an idea comes along with the potential to truly make the world a better place. Suspended Coffee is one of those ideas.
First, it’s simple. You walk into a coffee shop and instead of buying just one cup of coffee, you buy two, or more. You buy one for yourself and one for someone in need.
Second, it’s direct. You do not need to worry if your money is going to actually help someone or just to take care of a charity organization and it’s overhead and expenses. You also do not need to worry whether or not your recipient will use your gift to buy alcohol or drugs. You can directly control which food or beverage you would like to donate.
Third, it’s win-win. You not only support a person in need, you also support your local business and all it’s employees. Your money does not go to another state, country or continent. It stays right in the neighborhood where it was spent.
Lastly, it can be used for more than just coffee. You could buy a hot bowl of nourishing soup, a filling sandwich, water, fruit, bread, or a full meal. Suspended coffee’s simplicity makes it easy to duplicate with other food items.
How It Started
“While wandering a deserted beach at dawn, stagnant in my work, I saw a man in the distance bending and throwing as he walked the endless stretch toward me. As he came near, I could see that he was throwing starfish, abandoned on the sand by the tide, back into the sea. When he was close enough I asked him why he was working so hard at this strange task. He said that the sun would dry the starfish and they would die. I said to him that I thought he was foolish. there were thousands of starfish on miles and miles of beach. One man alone could never make a difference. He smiled as he picked up the next starfish. Hurling it far into the sea he said, “It makes a difference for this one.” I abandoned my writing and spent the morning throwing starfish.”
To get people supporting each other again, to show compassion love empathy. To show you we’ve all been there. To encourage you to keep going. To prove love exists. To get you through the day. To remind you to be strong. To celebrate you. To fight right along with you. And to remind you to be happy & live.

I hope that every single person that is able, will choose to smile on someone else this day, and everyday! Love your sight, and encompass all your ideals daily… a smile, a hand, a show of love to another human being…. too easy 🙂

Hi my name is Morgan,
I have a story to tell. One cold November morning about two years ago my then lover and I were out and about the town. We were going to my brothers house to help him get junk cleaned out of his basement
This was something we had been working on for several days you his basent wasn’t a cold dark damp basement where you would usually run in the event of a tornado but it was an extension of his home. It was like a whole other house that had offices and even a large living area with furniture and a fireplace. It was beautiful. Either way we stopped at a local hotspot to get cokes and of course my coffee. It was too cold not to have coffee! We sat in the drive through for the longest time waiting. I finally ordered our drinks once we got to the window. I ordered cigarettes and a breakfast biscuit as well. The lady behind me began honking her horn. She thought we were done and we weren’t. So I stuck my hand out the window and held my hand up and waved slightly trying to indicate to her that we weren’t finished. Just then the clerk came back to the window and handed me my smokes and coffee and biscuit. The lady quit honking then. I looked in my rear view about to driver off when Kelley said. Why don’t you pay for her stuff. Usually people only get drinks or smokes in that line so I said good idea and handed a ten dollar bill over to the clerk who I told to use it for the lady behind us so she could have her coffee and drinks. I from that fay forward would pay the $1.50 extra for someone else to have a cup of hot coffee each morning.

Is it “any” coffee shop doing this? Or just a particular chain?

I am freelancing with a kosher organization and I would like to inquire about whether or not you are looking to become kosher certified. The markets today are flooded with requests for certification these days.
Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
Thank you,
Goldie S.

How can they become Kosher certified? This is a movement not an establishment, nothing being sold here. You’d have to ask every coffee shop participating to do that, and if you make it too hard just for a few people then no one will do it.

hi.. is it possible to start this rolling in other parts of Asia? Currently, only Taiwan is participating country in Asia. Bring more to the other Asian countries! I’m from Singapore, by the way. 🙂

In the Caffè dell’Ussero at Pisa (Italy) the suspended coffee are available since 1848. The tradition is for the italian Risorgimento on May, 29th each year. Can you remember it in your profile

How can I get coffee shops in my town involved in this?
November 26, 2013 at 9:19 pm
Hi, we are currently suggesting this in a sustainability project for a café.
The problem is how do you handle the people who is abusing this system or how to do? for instance someone who wants a suspended coffee but actually is not in need of one or can afford one itself.
Regards
